The lecture entitled "Understanding Space Syntax and Its Role in Urban Equity" and workshop "Applying Space Syntax for Sustainable and Inclusive Cities" will be led by Prof. Akkelies van Nes from Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.

The event will be held on 15 September 2025 at the University of Lodz faculty of Economics and Sociology.
Description of the event:
How to design urban space to support the creation of interpersonal interactions, accessibility and social life? The aim of the lecture and the accompanying workshop is to introduce the space syntax method. Participants of the event will learn theoretical and practical aspects that will allow them to understand how the space syntax analysis can be applied to understand the spatial structure of the city.
Drawing on case studies from both the Global North and Global South, the course will demonstrate how spatial configurations impact movement patterns, social interactions and economic life, providing valuable insights for addressing urban inequality and creating inclusive planning interventions.

The event is organised as part of the AESOP lecture series by the Social-Ecological Systems Analysis Lab in cooperation with the Institute of the Built Environment and Spatial Policy, University of Lodz. The event is held under the honorary patronage of the Mayor of Lodz, Hanna Zdanowska.
