Registration for the open AESOP lecture and workshop which explore the application of space syntax as a powerful analytical tool to advance social equity, accessibility and sustainability in urban environment led by prof. Akkelies van Nes is open until 15 July 2025. The event will be held at the Faculty of Economics and Sociology, University of Lodz, on 15 September of the current year.

The lecture entitled "Understanding Space Syntax and Its Role in Urban Equity" and workshop "Applying Space Syntax for Sustainable and Inclusive Cities" will be led by Prof. Akkelies van Nes from Western Norway University of Applied Sciences.

The event will be held on 15 September 2025 at the University of Lodz faculty of Economics and Sociology.

Description of the event:

How to design urban space to support the creation of interpersonal interactions, accessibility and social life? The aim of the lecture and the accompanying workshop is to introduce the space syntax method. Participants of the event will learn theoretical and practical aspects that will allow them to understand how the space syntax analysis can be applied to understand the spatial structure of the city.

Drawing on case studies from both the Global North and Global South, the course will demonstrate how spatial configurations impact movement patterns, social interactions and economic life, providing valuable insights for addressing urban inequality and creating inclusive planning interventions.
