Biogram

I represent the discipline of biological sciences and specialise in biological anthropology.

I am a research and teaching employee. I have been associated with the university since 1985, when I started my biology studies. Throughout more than 35 years at the University of Lodz, I have gone through all the stages of academic career – from research-technical staff member to the Associate Professor and, since 1 March 2015, Full Professor (the Full Professor title was granted on 19 February 2014).

During the 2005-2008, I was the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection.

During the 2008-2016, I was the Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection.

During the 2016-2020 term, I was the University of Lodz Vice-Rector for Research.

During the 2020-2024 term, I was the Rector of the University of Lodz.

I have headed the Department of Anthropology at the University of Lodz since 2005.

I am a member of the Polish Anthropological Society, the Dental Anthropology Association and the European Anthropological Association.

I have been the Honorary Visiting Research Fellow School of Biomedicine, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences University of Adelaide since 2014.

I am a member of the Committee on Organismal Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN) (currently I am the Chairman).

I am a member of the Anthropology Section of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences (PAU).

During the 2020-2024 term, I was the President of the Science Committee of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (KRASP).

I am the member of the EUA Research and Innovation Strategy Group.

My tasks as a research and teaching employee include:

carrying out scientific activities and disseminating their results;
acquiring and implementing research projects;
participating in the implementation of the strategic plans of the discipline I represent;
training students and participation in doctoral students training;
continuous improvement of professional competence.
