Department of Invertebrate Zoology and Hydrobiology
My scientific interests and research activity of my team focus on:
- Spatio-temporal patterns of evolution in the aquatic ecosystems, host-parasite co-evolution in aquatic taxa.
- Biological invasions in aquatic ecosystems: invasion routes and vectors, ecology of invaders, interactions with native communities, mediation by pathogens.
- DNA barcoding as a tool for surveying aquatic biodiversity. Integrative taxonomy of malacostracan crustaceans.
Our usual model organisms are amphipods, shrimps and isopods, chironomid flies and microsporidian pathogens.
And last but not least: we have fun doing science together!
Bio
Interests
(1) Species diversity, integrative taxonomy and evolution of crustaceans (Amphipoda, Decapoda).
(2) Biogeography and processes shaping the biodiversity of Europe's surface waters.
(3) P hylogeography and molecular ecology of aquatic fauna with special emphasis on mountainous areas and the Mediterranean region.
(4) DNA barcoding and its use in monitoring and estimating biodiversity.
(5) B iology and ecology of invasive species.
