Agreements regarding support were concluded at the Herbst Palace in Lodz. They were signed with representatives of the university by Joanna Skrzydlewska, Marshal of the Lodz Voivodeship, and Artur Ostrowski, Member of the Board of the Lodz Voivodeship. During the ceremony the University of Lodz was represented by: Rector, Prof. dr hab. Rafał Matera; Finance Director of the University, dr hab. Michał Mackiewicz, Associate Professor at the University of Lodz, and Bursar Donat Kałuża.
This day is a kind of closing of the first chapter of cooperation between the Marshal's Office and universities operating in our province. I hope this is a path that we will follow together to develop principles of cooperation that are satisfactory for both parties. We do not want to do anything without your approval, because you know best what the needs of universities are
– said the Marshal of the Voivodeship, Joanna Skrzydlewska.
The Marshal's Office subsidy will co-finance expenses related to research, scientific and artistic projects carried out by doctoral students within doctoral schools. This will enable the implementation of projects that will be used in the socio-economic practice of the province, contribute to the development of innovative solutions, transfer of knowledge to the socio-economic environment and increase the attractiveness of the region for academic staff and students. Doctoral schools run by public universities in Lodz teach nearly 900 doctoral students.
The University of Lodz, the largest university in the region, runs four doctoral schools: the University of Lodz Doctoral School of Social Sciences, Doctoral School of Humanities, Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences and the Bio-Med-Chem Doctoral School of the University of Lodz and Lodz Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences. They have 399 students.
We will allocate the money directly to support doctoral students, research and development works trips, internships. These are elements of education that provide direct quality. They translate into practice. Thanks to them doctoral dissertations are simply better. These funds were missing; it is great that we can announce that the Marshal's Office is thinking about how to support young people. Perhaps, after completing their studies doctoral students will stay in the region and we really want that
– underlined Prof. dr hab. Rafał Matera, Rector of the University of Lodz.
