Description of tasks

The

Department of Italian Studies at the University of Łódź was established in

2010. It emerged from the Italian specialisation in the area of language,

literature and culture of Romance languages in the Department of Romance

Studies (currently the Institute of Romance Studies) - a specialisation

conducted continuously since 1971. The Department conducts first- and

second-cycle studies in Italian philology with a specialisation in translation

studies and teaching. The establishment of the Italian Philology major is

connected with the implementation of the ESF OP HC project entitled ‘Educating

human resources for the flexicurity market and knowledge-based economy - the

offer of humanities and social sciences faculties at the University of Łódź’

(2010-2015).

Main research directions

The

department conducts research in the disciplines of linguistics, literary

studies and cultural and religious studies. In

the field of linguistics, the Unit's research interests include the study of

Italian and Romance linguistics in the broadest sense; specialisations include

the study of proper names (onomastics and chrematonomastics), specialist

terminology, written, oral and specialist translation, discourse analysis

(media, press), teaching Italian as a foreign language (Italian

glottodidactics). In the

field of literary studies, topics related to 20th and 21st century Italian

literature and ancient literature are addressed.In

the field of cultural and religious studies, the reception of Italian

cinematography and other issues related to Italian artistic culture are

developed.
