Department of Labour Law, Social Security and Social Policy

About us


The Department of Labor Law, Social Security and Social Policy conducts research and teaching activities in the fields of labor law, social security law, social law and social policy in the broadest sense. The above areas are of interest from the perspective of Polish, international, European and European Union law.

Undertaken scientific and didactic activity is primarily concerned with the issues of:

- labor relations law (axiology of labor law, principles of labor law, legal basis of employment, establishment, change and termination of the employment relationship, group dismissals, atypical forms of employment, remuneration for work, working time, employee vacations, protection of personal data, protection of privacy in employment, employment of juveniles and children, employment of persons with disabilities, civil servant law, labor relations in public administration);

- labor protection law (axiology of labor protection law, subjective scope of labor protection law, subject matter of labor protection law, protection of health and life of employees, supervision of labor protection, legal aspects of operation of labor inspection, family protection in labor law,);

- collective labor law (sources of labor law, collective agreements and regulations);

- labor market law (legal aspects of employment and counteracting unemployment, legal model of job placement, legal forms of professional activation of the unemployed, legal status of the unemployed, labor administration, social security in case of unemployment);

- social insurance law (axiology of social insurance law, principles of social insurance law, organization and financing of the social insurance system, insurance: pension, disability, accident, sickness, social insurance proceedings, coordination of social security systems, rights of persons with disabilities);

- social policy (global and local employment policy, global and local labor market policy, migrant employment policy, social policy in the EU, corporate social responsibility).

There are postgraduate programs at the Department of Labor Law: - Occupational Safety and Health - Human Resources and Payroll - Personal Data Protection - Labor Law for Managers - Human Resource Management with Elements of Labor Law.

The Department's staff runs: ● the Center for Personal Data Protection and Information Management ● the Center for Atypical Employment Relationships ● the Center for Comparative Labor Law and Social Security ● the Polish Scientific Network of Labor Law and Social Security COOPERANTE.

The Department's staff has established an AI Work Team - a research team for conducting research on the effects of the development of artificial intelligence and other modern technologies on the labor market and labor and social security law.

Our employees are active in the Center for Migration Studies at the UŁ, and are also lecturers at the UŁ Doctoral School of Social Sciences.

- “Posting of workers before National courts” (European Trade Union Institute);

- “Mapping the rules on posting and short-term migration third country nationals (TCNs): the legal framework and practice in the European Union and EFTA countries” (European Trade Union Institute);

- “Shifting Labor Frontiers. The Recruitment of South Asian Migrant Workers to The European Union” (Federatie Nederlandse Vakbeweging);

- “The interaction between EU trade commitments and immigration rules in EU Member States” (Radboud University Nijmegen);

- “Digitalization, robotization and new technologies in the agricultural sector in Poland” (Programa Operacional Inclusão Social e Emprego);

- Numerous projects financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education under a targeted grant for young scientists.

Cyclical events organized by the Department of Labor Law:

- Szubert Seminars (2010-2018).

- September Meetings with Labor Law (2013-2019).

- Academic conferences on remote work (2021)

The Department's employees are active in university bodies, including: UŁ Senate; Doctoral School Council; UŁ Rector's Committee on Academic Regulations; UŁ Student Disciplinary Appeals Committee; UŁ Anti-Mobbing Committee. They also serve as Disciplinary Ombudsmen for UŁ students and doctoral students.

Within the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Lodz, the Department's employees are Members, among others, of the Faculty Council, the Curriculum Team, the Faculty Election Committee, the Faculty Evaluation Committee.

The Chair's staff are Members of, among others: Polish Social Security Association; Polish Section of the International Labor Law Association; International Labour and Employment Relations Association. The Department of Social Security Law and Social Policy is affiliated with the international Labour Law Research Network (LLRN). At the same time, employees of this Department are members of the Advisory Board of LLRN, as well as the Academic Board of Marco Biaggi Foundation Doctoral Research Programme (PhD) in Labour, Development and Innovation.

The Department's staff actively participate in legislative work, the preparation of expert reports, legal opinions and reports. They permanently cooperate with the Center for the Support of Workers' Councils. There is a Labor Law Academic Circle attached to the Department of Labor Law.


POLISH SCIENTIFIC NETWORK OF LABOR LAW AND SOCIAL SECURITY

The Polish Scientific Network of Labor Law and Social Security (COOPERANTE), affiliated with the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Lodz, is being established with the idea of creating a nationwide platform for the exchange of scientific information on labor law and social security. There are about 20 scientific centers in Poland dealing with these issues. Several hundred people work in them.

CENTER FOR COMPARATIVE LABOR LAW AND SOCIAL SECURITY

Objectives and directions of the PPPUS(COMPASS) center: to conduct comparative legal research on diverse aspects of labor with particular emphasis on the interdisciplinary interrelationships of labor law and diverse research methods; to internationalize science and the results of scientific research, carried out by Polish and foreign scientists as a result of scientific and research projects and scientific publications; to establish, strengthen and expand cooperation between the scientific community and the socio-economic community through the exchange of information, preparation of opinions, expertise, training and courses.

CENTER FOR ATYPICAL EMPLOYMENT RELATIONS

The Center for Atypical Employment Relations was established on the basis of Order No. 15 of the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Lodz dated July 3, 2017 and has been in operation since September 1, 2017.

  The task of the Center is to conduct scientific and research activities, as well as didactic and training activities devoted to various aspects of atypical employment relations, which for some time have become an increasingly widely used form of professional activity in the labor market. Against this background, many problems of both theoretical-legal and practical nature arise, which are the subject of the activities of the Center for Atypical Employment Relations.

COMPETITION FOR THE BEST MASTER'S AND BACHELOR'S THESES IN LABOR LAW

  III EDITION OF THE COMPETITION FOR THE BEST MASTER'S AND BACHELOR'S THESES IN LABOR LAW

  The District Labor Inspector in Lodz and the Department of Labor Law of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Lodz invite you to participate in the 3rd edition of the Competition for the best master's and bachelor's theses in the field of labor law.

  Participants in the Competition may be authors of bachelor's and master's theses related to the subject matter of the Competition, which were completed in the period from October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024 at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Lodz.

  The deadline for submitting master's and bachelor's theses to the Competition is October 15 this year.

  The subject of the Competition are theses prepared as part of full-time, evening and extramural studies. Details in the regulations of the Competition.
