It was here, in Lodz – a city of dynamic changes and encounters of cultures – that academic geography began to write its history in 1945. For eight decades, we have not only built scientific foundations of knowledge about the environment, landscape and space but also engaged in solving actual social, environmental and spatial problems.
Our faculty has been a place where theoretical reflection meets practice and education shapes generations of geographers sensitive to changes taking place in the surrounding world.
Our anniversary is not only a time of reminiscence, but also of reflection on the role of geography in the 21st century. It is also a moment in which we would like to thank all those who have created our community – employees, students, graduates, institutional and social partners: thanks to your involvement, Lodz geography is constantly developing as a useful, critical and socially responsible science.
We are looking back with pride and looking to the future with hope and readiness for action. We encourage you to participate in the jubilee as an opportunity for dialogue, cooperation and further joint shaping of geographical sciences.
