Important Information
- Nomination and application deadlines: Please contact the coordinator of your chosen programme, as application deadlines and result dates vary across different schemes.
- Academic calendar in Poland: The academic year in Poland runs from October 1st to September 30th and is divided into two semesters: The winter semester, which begins in October and ends in mid-February. The summer semester, which starts after the winter exam session and winter break. Each semester lasts 15 weeks, excluding public holidays and academic breaks. There are two exam sessions—one at the end of each semester. Holidays depend on the specific programme but generally run from July to August.
- Language requirements: All courses are conducted in English; therefore, the minimum required level of English proficiency is B2. Depending on the programme, Polish language classes may also be available for international students.
- Grading system: ECTS credit points (credits) are assigned to each subject exam at the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection. According to the program of study, the semestral performance requirement consists of 27-33 credits (average 30 per semester). At least 60 credit points are required for each year of study. 2 ECTS = 26 hours of work of the student (class, study, homework, exams, exc.). The following grading scale is used at the University of Lodz: 5 (bdb; very good); 4+ (db+; better than good); 4 (db; good); 3+ (dst+; better than satisfactory); 3 (dst; satisfactory); 2 (ndst; unsatisfactory).
International student transcripts also include the ECTS grade, reflecting the relative position of a grade in a certain reference group. - VISA requirements: After selection, students must check whether they require a VISA to study in Poland. This may be checked on the following website of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs: https://www.gov.pl/web/diplomacy/visas
